玉市: Jade Market
China and India are places that come to mind when I think of haggling. In China you get molested just walking down the street! Don’t have to buy anything – go to the wrong place at the wrong time and some little old lady will be tugging on your arm with one hand and digging in your pocket with the other. But apparently this practice is still alive and healthy in Taiwan as well…because when I walked through the Taichung Jade Market today, the same thing happened! Some elderly woman with big glaring eyes tugged on my damn arm! AGAIN!
There are dozens of vendors with various qualities of jade, jewelry, antiques, pottery, paintings and other decorative and artistic products. I don’t understand it. Perhaps she just mistook me for a big juicy leg-of-lam!
(Memories of China flooding back…lol..)
…I tend to walk away from the really obnoxious ones. But it’s still surprising how touching someone in a slightly aggressive manner like that can be accepted. You can’t get away with it everywhere – that’s for sure.
Anyhow, I found some bells for my canary to play with. I also had the chance to mess around with a few heavy metal broadswords. It was kind of fun. I didn’t buy anything I didn’t want, which is good, and I ended up getting out of there without fist fighting grandma!!
Ha Ha…Good times… :-)
