The Blowfish-

有一天, 一隻河豚在河裡游泳, 突然———–一頭撞在橋墩上。牠不知道自己應該避開橋墩, 反而十分憤怒的認為是橋墩故意撞上牠的。於是,  河豚張開了鰓和鰭, 鼓起肚子在水面上漂浮著, 好久好久一動也不動。這時候, 正好有一隻老膺飛來, 很快的把河豚抓住, 一下子就把牠吃掉。

One day a blowfish was swimming along in a river when…suddenly, it slams headfirst into a pier. Instead of knowing to avoid the pier, the blowfish believed angrily that the pier had collided with him on purpose. So the blowfish stretched open its gills and fins, puffed up its abdomen, then floated to the surface where it stays for a long time without moving. This is when, by chance, an eagle was flying over – which grabbed hold of the blowfish, and devoured him at once that instant.

The funniest thing ever. That’s quite a statement, I realize that.

But HBO has taken what was already a hilarious podcast, and led by actors Karl Pilkington, Stephen Merchant, and Ricky Gervais, have turned it into a truly entertaining animation of their live in-studio action. Seems Karl is the star of this project, and rightly so.

It premieres tonight on HBO at 9pm, but you can watch it right now.

Brow, Eye, Nose, Mouth-

每個人的臉上, 都有眉毛、眼睛、鼻子和嘴巴: 有一天, 嘴巴對鼻子說: [你到底有什麼好本領, 位置為什麼在我的上面?] 鼻子回答嘴巴說:[因為我能分別香和臭, 然後你才可以吃。所以我當然就在你的臉上面了。] 然後﹐鼻子又對眼睛說: [你到底有什麼好本領, 位置為什麼在我的上面?]眼睛回答鼻子說: [我能看哪個美, 哪個醜, 還能看東西, 功勞很大。 所以, 應該在你得上面。] 鼻子接著說:[照你這麼講, 那眉毛到底有什麼好本領, 位置為什麼在我的上面呢?] 這時候, 眉毛回答鼻子說: [其實, 我也不想爭位置。但是, 如果把握放在眼睛和鼻子下面, 那會變成什麼樣的一張臉呢?]

Everyone has eyes, eyebrows, a mouth and nose on their face: One day, Mouth says to Nose: ‘What is it that you do? And why are you above me?’ Nose answers: ‘I distinguish between fragrance and odor before you can eat, so of course I’m over you.’  Then, Nose says to Eyes: ‘What can you do? And why are you above me?’ Eyes reply: ‘I determine what beauty and ugliness are, and also see things. My contribution is very large, so I should be over you.’ Nose responds: ‘If you put it that way, what’s the purpose of Eyebrows then? And why are they above us?’ Which is when Eyebrows jumps in, saying: ‘I don’t want to compete for position either! But – If you put me below Eyes, what kind of a face will this become?!

• Wisdom Fables 2a 河豚

Sol, the sun goddess, and Mani, the moon god, being chased across the sky by wolves as illustrated in the book Myths of the Norseman by H. A. Guerber.

When Odin (god of Norse paganism) asks Vafþrúðnir about the origins of the Sun and Moon during a battle of wits, he’s told, ‘they pass through the heavens to count the years for mankind, but are pursued by the likes of two wolves, called Sköll and Hati .’ Then, during the final destiny of gods, known as Ragnarök, Sol and Mani are eventually caught and swallowed, which causes the world to fall dark and cold again.

So it’s actually thanks to Sol and Mani, who were personified in Norse mythology, that we have the terms \Sun and Moon\ and the names for Sunday and Monday (aka. Sol’s day and Mani’s day).\ The names for all the planets and days of the week, in fact, except perhaps for the planet Earth, can be traced back to the Norse, Romans and Greeks.

Mars – god of war – was readopted from Tyr /Tyr’s day/ and became Tuesday. Mercury’s name went from Woden/Woden’s day/to Wednesday. Jupiter, the mighty god of sky and thunder, came from Thor/Thor’s day/or Thursday – and so on: Venus is derived from Freyja, Friday, Saturn from Saturnus, Saturday, Uranus from Ouranos, and Neptune, himself, had been the great god of sea and water.
